Additional EFT Techniques
The following techniques are frequently used in addition to
the basic EFT techniques: Usually an EFT
practitioner decides on the spot whether to use one of these or not. Το find more details about
some of these, go to
the Learn EFT page.
Collarbone Breathing It's a special technique that is
used infrequently and especially when the distress level does not seem to go
down any further. This techniques involves the
simultaneous use of both hands sequentially, having one in contact with the
Collarbone Point (CB) and the other tapping the Gamut Point, while the
person exercises some special breathing. The application is duplicated at
both left and right body sections.
Floor to ceiling eye roll This involves slowly
moving the person's eyes from looking down to the floor to looking up to the
ceiling in a few seconds. If the person can not do it by itself, the EFT
practitioner can guide using his/her hand as a focus aid.
The floor to ceiling eye roll is used in cases were a complete zeroing of a
very low level of distress is desired (SUDS level not more than 2).
The Tearless Trauma technique This is very
useful when the subject cannot or should not tune in a very emotionally
intense memory, because it could cause intolerable distress in the form of
extreme emotional or even physical pain. The
Tearless Trauma technique is also well fitted to group EFT sessions, were a
person does not want to reveal his/her intense emotions in front of other
people. The technique requires that the subject
tries to guess the SUDS level without recalling the incident or person
associated with the distress. The subject
applies EFT to the issue, until the guessed SUDS level drops down to zero or
a very low degree. Then, the subject could try to safely recall the details
of the issue, which will hopefully be much more tolerable in emotional terms.
The real SUDS level will probably be much more than zero, but also less
than if the Tearless Trauma Technique had not been used.
The techniques is usually applied by the subject under the guidance of an
experienced EFT practitioner, as it cannot be easily applied for self-help.
The Tell The Story technique Copying from Gary Craig's
site: The idea is very simple. Just have the client
narrate a SPECIFIC EVENT (about a trauma, grief, anger, etc.) and stop to
tap whenever they get to emotionally intense parts of it. Each of the
stopping points represents another aspect of the issue that, on occasion,
will take you to even deeper issues. Each time
a distress point is reached while telling his/her story, the person applies
EFT to bring the SUDS level down to zero and then can continue with the rest
of the story telling. At the end, after applying the Tell The Story
technique, the subject has achieved relief from all the negative emotional
aspects of the incident.
The Movie technique The Movie techniques involves having
the EFT subject mentally run a movie of a bothersome specific event and deal
with every negative aspect that comes up. The person
stops each time a scene with a high SUDS level is reached and tries to bring
it down to zero with EFT. He/she replays the movie, confirms that the
disturbing scene is no longer emotionally charged and continues with the
next distressing scenes in the same way, until all of them have been
successfully discharged. The person can give a title to
the movie and only refer to the title while working with the EFT
professional, without describing any details, if he/she does not want to. In
that way, someone can overcome serious traumatic memories than can be kept
secret even from the therapist (e.g. sexual abuse from a relative).
Muscle Testing It includes techniques taken
from Applied Kinesiology of Dr. Goodheart and can be used for diagnosis, for
verification and for making decisions about the next steps in a therapeutic
session. Muscle Testing involves asking the
person proper questions (using voice or even silently) and getting answers
through testing the resistance of specific body muscles.
The techniques is widely used in many alternative therapies and is supposed
to bring out answers directly from a person's subconscious, sneaking through
the person's conscious thinking. In reality, there are
many case were Muscle Testing can trully help and dramatically speed up
therapy, but there are also many cases were it produces erroneous results,
even when used by experienced practitioners. Successful
use of Muscle Testing follows many years of practice (including many
failures and disappointment), until the practitioner can reach a point were
the results are trustworthy. Please note that
this technique only refers to "energy diagnosis", not medical diagnosis and
that it may be illegal to claim otherwise.
Constricted Breathing technique This technique involves
executing a deep breath and focusing on any signs or feelings of distress,
bringing up associated hidden emotions and discharging them with EFT.
The Constricted Breathing technique is especially useful when a person does
not want to or cannot describe a specific issue (e.g. due to intense
emotional confusion), when the person cannot focus on specific issues and
when a confirmation is needed that no hidden emotional charge exists.
Borrowing Benefits This procedure involves the
simultaneous application of EFT's Basic Recipe by a group of people.
An EFT practitioner acts as the group leader and guides a participant
thourgh the application of EFT, while the other participants follow by
applying it to themselves, each for his/her own problem.
The Borrowing Benefits procedure is useful for demonstrating EFT to groups,
as well as for saving time by practitioners and therapists.
The Personal Peace procedure This is really a
long-term process, unlike most of the techniques of EFT which are very quick.
It's a very effective way to overcome a series of issues or even
dramatically change our lives! It helps to easily achieve things that other
forms of self-help or therapy could take years and lots of money to achieve.
The procedure is very simple: You create a written list of all the specific
events in your life that: bother you
emotionally or have troubled you some time in the past and you have not
completely overcome, or do not
bother you any more, but you think that if they happen again, they would
make you feel distressed again.
Next, you
treat each and every of this list entries with EFT, until the associated
SUDS level drops to zero. After a couple of months,
by treating one to three entries per day, you could have totally restored
your emotional health. At the same time, you would probably be freed from
numerous physical ailments, since (as the creator of EFT writes):
MOST OF OUR EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED (OR CONTRIBUTED
TO) BY OUR UNRESOLVED SPECIFIC EVENTS, THE VAST MAJORITY OF WHICH CAN BE
EASILY HANDLED BY EFT. Chasing the
Pain Often, when using EFT for physical ailments or when
physical stress is experienced during an EFT application, one can notice
that applying EFT to a specific body part or area can cause a pain or
feeling of distress to change its nature or move to another part or area.
You should go after this moving and changing body feeling until it gets down
to zero intensity. This chase can take some time, until every distress has
been overcome or hidden issues have surfaced. |
